Global warming is caused by carbon dioxide and other gases that are unable to escape the atmosphere thus they are trapped and through a natural process are heating up the earth’s surface. This natural way the earth has to heat itself is important for our survival because it keeps the planet livable. What we have been doing over the last several decades is increasing the levels of carbon dioxide to levels that the earth’s atmosphere cannot sustain. We have been doing this by burning fossil fuels like gas, oil and coal. We have decimated forests at staggering speeds – for example the Amazon Rain forest is reduced by 70 acres per/minute. This is all adding to the increased levels of carbon dioxide which is causing the Earth’s temperature to rise.
Global Warming
Scientists and researchers all agree that global warming is being caused by human activity and is not due to natural occurrence. Listed below is a small sample of evidence indicating this to be the case and the facts are undeniable.
Ice caps and Glaciers are melting, plants, insects and animal species are disappearing or having to relocate from their habitats, weather conditions and storms are becoming more extreme and unpredictable.
Over the last 30 Years Category 4 and 5 hurricanes have doubled |
Sicknesses such as Malaria has spread from areas under 4,000 feet above sea level to over 7,000 Ft and example of this is in the Colombian Andes |
The continent of Greenland is shrinking and the ice flows from there have almost tripled in the last 20 years. |
Over 300 species of plants, insects and animals have been tracked moving closer to the south and north poles. |
If humans do not intervene - our planet and the human race will be in grave danger – here are a few examples of some of the forecasts of what may happen..
Global Warming Deaths could reach well over 250,000 people per/yr in just 20 years – almost double of what it is today |
Sea levels around the world could rise to more than 20 feet due to the loss of ice shelves in the Poles |
Droughts and heat waves will double and will become hotter |
More frequent heat waves will translate to more wildfires |
The Arctic Ocean could be free of ice during the summer periods by midway through this century |
We could lose more than a million species from our planet by the mid point of this century. |
We can stop this – we need to stop this – its up to all of us to Reduce – Reuse - ReCycle and look for alternative energy sources to power our daily lives.
